europeGermany got divided into two parts; Eastern and Western Germany. The Eastern part was controlled by Russia and the Western part by the Allies. Russia also controlled many of the countries in Eastern Europe including Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia.
Europe was in need of financial aid due to all the destruction that had occurred during the war. The United States offered aid in the form of the Marshal Plan to help Europe recover. |
People couldn't afford food because factories and work places had been destroyed. Many people were left homeless. People had no water, no electricity, and very little food. Some people traveled through Europe with the hope of finding a new home. The traveling systems were gone, so harvest didn't arrive to people that needed food. Thousands died as famine and disease spread through the cities.

In order for World War III to be prevented, the Allies formed the United Nations. The United Nations was formed on October 24, 1945. There were 51 original members including five permanent Security Council members, which were China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States.
